Kings grab WSL sweep of Addison

The Kenosha Kings pounded out 27 hits en route to a Wisconsin State League doubleheader sweep over the Addison Braves on Sunday at Simmons.

The Kenosha Kings pounded out 27 hits en route to a Wisconsin State League doubleheader sweep over the Addison Braves on Sunday at Simmons.

The Kings won the first game 5-2 and the second game 11-1 in six innings.

“It was nice to see the bats come alive,” Kings manager Tim Pulizzano said. “We had more hits today than the first four games of the season combined.”

In the opener, Jon Olson pitched a four-hit complete game with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Addison ruined the shutout bid with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning.

Billy Johnson’s two-run double highlighted a three-run third. Johnson, Mark Cibrario and Andrew Highland all had two hits to lead a 12-hit attack.

The Kings (6-0, 2-0 WSL) continued their offensive onslaught with 15 hits in the second game.

Brad Medina went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and Jason Dennis went 3-for-4 with an RBI. John Hasser and Billy Johnson both went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

Medina had a two-run double in Kenosha’s four-run third and Kyle Frye had a two-run double in the three-run fifth.

Kenosha starter Randy Johnson allowed five hits in six innings for the win. He walked one and struck out five.

The Kings return to action with a Langsdorf League game against the Genoa City Red Dogs 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Simmons Field.
