A couple of Appleton Legends with Oshkosh ties made the Oshkosh Giants pay Wednesday night.

Former Oshkosh North standout Bryan Clark went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI, while former University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titan Drew Eichstaedt went 2-for-4 with a walk, helping the Legends to an 8-1 Northeastern Baseball League victory at E.J. Of course, the Giants seemed to do everything they could to help them out, committing five errors while failing to string together quality at-bat.

“We had a lot of people out with injuries,” Giants coach Brad Demmin said. “We were just playing people everywhere, and the probably had something to do with the defensive mishaps.”

The Giants’ only run came in the second inning, when Ty Kamps scored on an Andrew Murphy RBI-single.

Other than that, Legends hurler Nic Jensen pitched a shiny gem of a performance, allowing only four hits and escaping a bases-loaded bottom of the ninth by striking out Sean Grabig, his tenth strikeout of the game.

“He didn’t do anything too special, he just went up there and threw strikeouts,” Demmin said. “When we got people on base, we couldn’t get them in. It was just one of those days.”

Appleton, on the other hand, was kept at bay by Giants pitcher Matt Wells until they picked up three runs in the fifth and added a three-spot on reliever Andrew Murphy in the eighth.

“Last time we played them, their pitcher threw well, so we wanted to come back and focus on hitting good pitches,” Clark said.
