Cavaliers claw way to split with Lombard

The Cavaliers received timely hitting and outstanding pitching in the opener but the Lombard Orioles clubbed their way to victory in the nightcap as the Cavs won game one 3-2 and dropped game two 6-3.

The Eau Claire Cavaliers received timely hitting and outstanding pitching in the opener but the Lombard Orioles clubbed their way to victory in the nightcap as the Cavs won game one 3-2 and dropped game two 6-3 on Sunday at Stein Field.

Troy Peiffer fired six innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out three to win the opener.

Third baseman Greg Rhude drove in two runs and pinch-hitter Brian Burman added another.
