A pair of big innings helped carry the Oshkosh Giants to a sweep of a Wisconsin State League doubleheader against the Addison Braves on Sunday at E.J. Schneider Field.
A pair of big innings helped carry the Oshkosh Giants to a sweep of a Wisconsin State League doubleheader against the Addison Braves on Sunday at E.J. Schneider Field.
A five-run first inning for Oshkosh sparked a 9-1 win in the opener, while the Giants rode a six-run fifth inning to a 9-7 win in the nightcap.
Doug Beattie’s two-run single started the first-inning outburst in the opener, while Oshkosh (6-4 overall, 5-2 in the WSL) cashed in on two Addison errors to score three runs with two outs.
Trey Demler finished with two hits in the game for the Giants, while Nick Heitman earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief.
In the nightcap, Oshkosh trailed 7-1 after the second inning but took the lead with the big sixth inning.
Demler had a two-run single in the inning, while Michael Polcyn, Zac Peterson and Bobby Kachel also drove in runs in the rally. Five different Giants finished with two hits in the game as Oshkosh outhit Addison 11-6.
Matt Wells got the win for the Giants, while Luke Westphal collected the save.
The Giants will be back in action on Wednesday when they face the Green Bay Storm on the road.
