Randy Johnson threw a complete game in the opener and Billy Johnson fronted the Kenosha Kings for good in both games of a doubleheader sweep of the Oshkosh Giants on Sunday at Oshkosh North High School.

The Kings won the first game 2-1 in nine innings and took the closer 7-2 to improve to 6-1 in the Wisconsin State League and 16-2 overall.

In the opener, Randy Johnson yielded only an unearned run with one walk and eight strikeouts to move to 4-0.

“It was one of those games where the pitching and defense picked up the offense,” Kings’ manager Tim Pulizzano said. “Sometimes that happens, too. He was solid. He was on. He was everything we expected and more.”

The first-place Kings pushed the go-ahead run across in the ninth when Joe Fero reached on a misplayed bunt, took second on a Tyler Eickmeyer sacrifice and scored on a Billy Johnson double.

The Kings led the second game from the start thanks to Billy Johnson’s RBI single in the first.

Kenosha also got RBIs from Jason Dennis, Mark Cibrario and Kyle Frye in support of winning pitcher Jason Bunton (1-0), who went the distance.

The Kings play at the Geno City Red Dogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in a Langsdorf League game. The Kings next home game is 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Burlington in a Langsdorf League game at Simmons Field. The Kings lead the Langsdorf League at 6-0.
