Orioles sweep away Kings

The Kenosha Kings couldn't get the bats going Saturday, totaling 11 hits in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader sweep by the Lombard (Ill.) Orioles at Simmons Field.

The Kenosha Kings couldn’t get the bats going Saturday, totaling 11 hits in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader sweep by the Lombard (Ill.) Orioles at Simmons Field.

The Orioles won the first game, 16-6, before scoring two runs late to win the second game, 5-3. Both games were seven innings.

Despite having just five hits in the game, Kenosha (17-9, 7-6 WSL) was tied 3-3 in the second game before Lombard tallied two runs in the top of the sixth off reliever Garrett Arnold, who took the loss. Starting pitcher Travis Vanderwall had a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

Paul Pulera had an RBI double, and Joe Balistreri drove in a run.

In the first game, the Kings scored five runs in the fifth after the Orioles had already built a large lead.

Joe Ferro had a three-run double.

Kenosha plays at Genoa City’s Torstenson Field at 3 p.m. today in a Langsdorf League game.
