More than 10,000 Wisconsin residents are currently serving in our military at locations all over the world. The Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association (WPMCA) and Q Mart Marketplace Stores would like to honor these great Americans by working with the Wisconsin American Legion to raise funds to support loved ones left behind. The Hometown Heroes Program debuts on Memorial Day.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the bravery of our service men and women, but we also know the significant toll it takes on family who must cope with life’s day-to-day struggles here at home,” says Pam Christenson, Director of Public Affairs for WPMCA. “With Wisconsin American Legion has some great programs, but they could use a little help. Our members couldn’t be more excited to be part of a program that will make a difference in the lives of so many Hometown Heroes.”

Locally Q Mart is working closely with the Sheboygan Athletic Club and its sponsorship of Military Appreciation Day at Wildwood Park.  One half of the money collected through the Hometown Heroes program will be returned to Sheboygan County to recognize the county’s veterans and current service men and women, and their families. The program is very simple. Your local Q Mart store will display materials highlighting the program from Memorial Day through July 4th. “Simply ask the cashier for details and they’ll do all the work,” says Scott Stangel  President of the Sheboygan Athletic Club. “You’ll get a deduction with your receipt and you can go home knowing that you’ve supported Hometown Heroes in your own community.”

Sheboygan Military Appreciation Day will be held on July 26 at Wildwood Baseball Park.  The event will feature a baseball game between the Sheboygan A’s and a military all-star team made up of active men from all branches of the military.  Pre-game ceremonies will include recognition of all those who served our country.  Stangel added, “This is going to be a great event.  It will give the entire Sheboygan community a chance to sat ‘Thank You’ to those who sacrificed so much for our freedom”.

The Wisconsin American Legion supports veteran families through many programs, most notably: Troop and Family Support, Camp American Legion, American Legion Service Office and the Americanism Programs for Children & Youth.
