Wisconsin State League Post Season Honors Announced

With the most valuable player, most valuable pitcher and five unanimous all-league selections, the Kenosha Kings dominated the 2010 Wisconsin State League post-season awards voting.

With the most valuable player, most valuable pitcher and five unanimous all-league selections, the Kenosha Kings dominated the 2010 Wisconsin State League post-season awards voting.

Mark Cibrario, the league’s leading hitter with a .433 average, was named Most Valuable Player, reining in 15 vote points to 13 for teammate Jason Acevedo. Cibrario, a veteran of nine State League seasons holds down third base for the Kings.

Teammate Jon Olson was named the Most Valuable Pitcher for the second straight season. Olson, a right-hander, went 3-0 with a 1.00 earned run average. He beat out Eau Claire’s T.J. Wink in a close vote, 17-16.

Sheboygan’s Ryan Schilter, a catcher-outfielder, was picked as Rookie of the Year. He collected 13 points to 12 for Wink and 11 for Lombard shortstop Bobby Martin.

Jeff Vukovich, whose Lombard Orioles won the league title for the seventh straight season, was named Manager of the Year for the fourth straight season. His Orioles won the title this year by four games over Eau Claire. Kenosha finished third, six games back.

Five Kenosha players – first baseman John Hasser, Cibrario, catcher Billy Johnson, DH Acevedo and Olson – were unanimous selections to the all-league team.

Lombard outfielder Ryan Faidley, and left-handed pitcher Wink were also unanimous picks. Joining them on the first team were Manitowoc second baseman Nat Richter, Martin, and outfielders Ty Fadness of Eau Claire and Ryan Schilter of Sheboygan.

The award winners will be honored at the league’s Annual Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner Jan. 29 at City Steets Riverside Restaurant in Sheboygan. Cost is $25 per person.
