Bandits lose their season opener

The Manitowoc Bandits baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and was off to a good start in its home and season opener against Freedom on Tuesday at Municipal Field.

The Manitowoc Bandits baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and was off to a good start in its home and season opener against Freedom on Tuesday at Municipal Field.

But Freedom scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to hand the Bandits a 7-5 loss

Matt Phipps started for the Bandits and threw three scoreless innings before being relieved. Nathan Shea took the loss for Manitowoc.

Manitowoc was led by Nat Richter and Brandon Chinn who were each 1-for-2 while Tommy Kawamura was 2-for-4. The Bandits used 14 different hitters and four different pitchers during the contest.

The Bandits travel to Appleton on Thursday to take on the Legends.
