Another dose of stellar pitching helped the Sheboygan A’s sweep the Addison Braves for the second straight day in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Wildwood Baseball Park.

Collin Weyer went the distance in Game 1, tossing a complete game, six-hit shutout as the A’s cruised to an 8-0 win.

Sheboygan plated runs in five different innings, including a four-run outburst in the fifth.

Taylor Schwarz set the pace with a hit and three RBI.

Eric Van Beck threw six shut-out innings of his own in the series finale. Connor Lenz came on to secure the 6-0 victory.

Greg Rhude, Tim Patzman and Adam Wilson each had two hits.

The win marked the first time in the 49-year history of the A’s that the club pitched four consecutive shutouts.

“When you look at shutouts, it has to be great pitching and defense,” said A’s manager Shaun Wegner. “Our defense played a lot better, we made a couple errors but not as many as we have been. We kept balls in front of us and our pitchers pitched strikes.”

Sheboygan outscored Addison 23-0 over the four-game weekend series.

With the series sweep, the A’s improve to 24-15 overall and 12-10 in the State League.

With the end of the weekend comes the end of a brutal stretch of games. Monday will be the club’s first off-day in a week after playing 10 games in seven days, a time frame in which the team finished 8-2.

“I think this team is more than glad to have a day off,” Wegner said. “We all love the game of baseball, but what we just had was nonstop. I am proud of the guys for the stretch we just put together there and hopefully we will carry that into next week.”
