The Sheboygan A’s have set several special nights as they prepare to celebrate their 50th anniversary this summer. But they’ll have to do so with a new manager.
Shaun Wegner, who led the club to a 32-17 record last season, a third-place finish in the Wisconsin State League and advanced his team to the title game of the Northeastern Wisconsin League playoffs, will be joining the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League as an assistant coach.
“Shaun wants a career in baseball and this is an opportunity for him to move up the ladder,” said A’s general manager Denny Moyer. “I wish him the very best. He did a great job for us and I’m sure he will do a great job for the Chinooks.”
The A’s did get agreements from a pair of Sheboygan pitchers. Lucas Wilsing and Jake Ristow are among the latest to join the club for 2012.
Wilsing was out of the area for the past two seasons, but the left-handed pitcher/first baseman is a welcome addition. In four seasons he posted a 12-6 record with a 2.26 earned run average, striking out 124 in 115 innings. He also has a .319 career batting average in 116 games.
Ristow, a right-hander, has four saves and 37 career strikeouts in 41 innings. First year players to sign in are right-handed pitcher Ben Hylander of Sheboygan and infielder Trevor Theissen of Franklin.
