Non-WSL Challenge Games

West Allis Nationals 1, 8, Northern Illinois Legends 0, 0

The West Allis Nationals enjoyed home cooking Saturday – literally and
figuratively – after a long period on the road.  Having completed road
trips to Lombard, Illinois, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, and West Bend in the
past 10 days the squad was back at familiar Harvey Kuenn Field in West
Allis for a DH vs the Northern Illinois Legends.   Those in attendance
were treated to wins by scores of 1-0 and 8-0.

Game one was a crisply played affair. Offensive rallies were at a
minimum so, Nationals starting pitcher Jimmy Jungbauer maximized the one run he was
provided in leading the team to victory. Jungbauer allowed only three
hits and struck out nine in the complete game shutout victory. Jonah
Meidl scored the game’s only run, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kyle
Kalkopf after he had tripled to lead off the third inning.

Game two was equally tight until the Nationals offense woke up in the
fifth inning.   When the dust cleared the Nationals had plated seven runs on eight hits to take a commanding 8-0 lead.  Brian Huntzinger, Matt Richer,
Shey Smith, Nick Schmidlekofer and Jake Kolasinski all had RBI knocks
in the frame.

Chad Tindall pitched the first five innings for the victory, allowing only
two hits while striking out four.  Sam Mahar, in his Nationals debut
pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

West Bend 7 Up 9, Sussex Cardinals 2

Against the rest of the Land O Lakes league in 2015, Travis
Thompson of Sussex has a 1.24 ERA. After Saturday’s start against West Bend, his ERA
against 7 Up is 17.8.

It was West Bend’s ability to put the ball in play
against the top pitcher in Land O’ Lakes that was difference in this game.

West
Bend jumped all over Sussex in the bottom of the first, when the league’s top
hitter thus far in 2015, Adam Rohlinger hit a 2 RBI single and RBI by Casey
Krohn and Matt Parrent.

Tyler Adams quitely pitched another great game for 7
Up, going 7 and giving up just 2 runs. Sam Mattheis had 3 hits for West Bend.
Taylor Koth, Matt Parrent, and Jed Justman all had multiple hit games for West
Bend. BJ Sabol had 3 hits for Sussex, and Scott Carberry, Tanner Johnson, and
Travis Thompson had multiple hit games for Sussex.
