The Sheboygan A’s hosted the Green Bay Storm at Wildwood Baseball Park for Northeastern Wisconsin League play Thursday night. Despite
ominous clouds, the rainstorms held off and the A’s topped the Green Bay
Storm 13-5.
Green Bay got on the board first, scoring two in the
top half of the first. Their lead did not last long though. The A’s,
along with the hot bat of Carter Amundsen, answered with four runs of
their own. Amundsen knocked a bases-clearing double that plated three
runs.
The A’s padded their lead in the sixth inning scoring six
runs on four hits. The big story of the inning was a grand slam off the
bat of Taylor Grimm that got the crowd buzzing.
After the sixth, both offenses sputtered. Mark Wallace went a strong 6 2/3 innings, tallying five strikeouts in his first career win in a Sheboygan A’s uniform. A.J. Alessi worked the final 2 1/3, allowing some base-runners, but no runs.
When
Amundsen ended the night, he had reached base three times, earning a
triple, single and fielder’s choice. He also tallied four RBI and a
stolen base. Grimm finished with three hits and five RBI. Adam Ryan and
Cole Miklavcic each added two hits and a RBI.
The A’s improved to
24-13 overall and 10-4 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League. With the
win, the A’s remain perfect in the NWL at home with a 7-0 record.
