Dodgers Announce 2018 Team Awards

The De Pere Dodgers announced their 2018 team awards at a meeting last week.

The De Pere Dodgers announced their 2018 team awards at a meeting last week. 

Named as the team leading Pitcher by his teammates was Cole Nelson (De Pere, Wis.). Nelson finished with a 4-3 record, but was leading pitcher with 50.2 innings pitched with an era of 3.02, and had 31 strikeouts and only 13 walks. 

Sam Kohnle (Kewaunee, Wis.) won the leading hitter award by finishing the season with a .491 batting average in 37 games. Kohnle was the only double award winner by also collecting the MVP plaque.

Zach Abfall (Green Bay, Wis.) was voted as the best defensive player with no errors and throwing out 4 base runners from his centerfield position. Rookie of The Year award went to Hunter Staniske, who also won that award in the Wisconsin State Baseball League. Staniske hit .477 and had 11 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs, in addition to playing great defense at shortstop. 

The Unsung Hero award which was given by Dodgers game management, went to pitcher Evan Rice. This award was presented for his outstanding cooperation in team spirit, help with equipment, doing extra little baseball jobs that go unnoticed by the fans, but not by management.
