Burlington Barons 5, Kenosha Kings 3

The Burlington Barons captured a quick lead against the Kenosha Kings Tuesday night and rode it to a 5-3 victory. With the win, Burlington improves to 2-2 in the WSL while the Kings fall to 1-4.

The game’s leadoff batter, Logan Pye, was hit by a pitch to start the game, which was then followed up with TJ Manteufel’s home run shot to left field, giving the Barons an early lead.

The Barons offense continued to be effective in the 4th and 5th innings when they racked up three more runs. Hits from Zach Campbell, Ben LaRonge, Brandon Watkins, and Ben Siekierski all amounted to a 5-0 lead before the Kings would get their offense going.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth inning that the Kings offense finally got rolling. Line drives by Frankie Cistero and Aaron Schauer helped lead the Kings charge, scoring one run. Two Burlington errors in the bottom of the 6th inning aided in Kenosha’s 2-run inning which closed the gap, but that would be as close as the Kings comeback attempt would get.

Brandon Jeffery pitched in relief of Garret Arnold who went a full six innings for the Kings. Kyle Gendron, Jarrett Ramer, and David Meade each pitched for Burlington, with Gendron picking up the win. Meade was credited with the save.
