A’s and Barons Split, Nationals Sweep on Saturday

The second and third place teams in the WSL split a Saturday doubleheader, while the Nationals swept Greater Green Bay.

The Sheboygan A’s and Burlington Barons split a two-game series on Saturday with a 3-1 Sheboygan victory and a 3-2 Burlington victory. In the first game both teams were scoreless until Burlington put up a run in the fourth on a RBI single from Ben LaRonge. Sheboygan pulled away for good in the sixth when Jimmy Juergensen hit a three-run homer to right field scoring Colin Butkiewicz and Harry Steldt. In game two, Burlington put up a quick two runs in the first inning on a 2-RBI single from Jason Adams and Sheboygan answered back with a single run on a RBI single from Harry Steldt. The A’s tied the game at 2-2 but Burlington’s TJ Manteufel singled in the seventh inning and Brandon Watkins scored the Barons final and winning run.

West Allis defeated Green Bay in both games of their Saturday afternoon doubleheader with a final score of 10-3 in the first and a 10-0 shutout in the second. In game one, Green Bay’s 2-0 lead was short-lived when West Allis put up a combined total of 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Rob Coe and Bryce Toussaint tallied four runs themselves on two-run homers. Hits produced by Logan Rezash, Kyle Bullock, Alex Elliot, Jonah Meidl, and Jon Keane all furthered West Allis’ lead. In game two the Blue Ribbons didn’t score a run, but West Allis was able to score runs in every inning with the exception of the first. Meidl, Bullock, and Keane each collected two hits to lead the Nationals. Alex Moreland pitched for West Allis, he allowed zero runs over five innings and struck out six batters.
