Nationals Sweep Braves, A’s/Barons Split in Sunday WSL Action

In Wisconsin State League action Sunday, the West Allis National swept the Addison Braves, while over in Sheboygan, the Burlington Barons and A's split.

West Allis Nationals 12, 7, Addison Braves 0, 2

The West Allis Nationals swept their WSL-opening doubleheader from the Addison Braves Sunday, winning by scores of 12-0 and 7-2. In game one, the Nationals used a pair of big innings, scoring 11 of their 12 runs in the fourth and seventh innings. Three Nationals hit doubles in the contest, led by Alex Elliott who was 2-4 with three RBI in game one. Game two was closer on the saw the game tied 2-2 after the first inning, with the Nationals again pulling away late, adding a pair of runs each in the sixth and seventh innings. Jon Keane struck out eight in his complete game performance.

Burlington Barons 6, 5, Sheboygan A’s 5, 8

The Burlington Barons and Sheboygan A’s played a pair of close contests Sunday, resulting in a split. The Barons trailed 5-3 entering the sixth in game one, but put two runs on the board in the top half of the sixth then broke the tie with one more in the seventh to claim the lead and seal the victory. Jason Bunton pitched a complete game for the Barons. scattering eight hits and striking out three. The A’s Harry Steldt launched a solo-home run in the bottom of the third. In game two, the A’s scored in every inning but the sixth on their way to the doubleheader split. Burlington collected 10 hits in the losing effort, getting multi-hit performances from Logan Pye, Ryan Vogel, Kaleb Gendron, and Christian Brenner. Steldt again led the A’soffensively in game two with two hits and two RBI.
