Legendary Blue Ribbons Manager Denny Ruh Passes Away

Former Green Bay Blue Ribbons Manager Denny Ruh passed away on Friday at the age of 82 after a brief health battle.

“The Blue Ribbons family was saddened to hear about the passing of Denny Ruh,” the team said in a statement.“ A leader on and off the field, Denny was one of the founding fathers of Bay Baseball, Ltd. in 1970 and was the first manager in Green Bay Blue Ribbons history, leading the team to 12 Wisconsin State League titles over the course of their first 26 seasons. A seven-time WSL manager of the year, Rue was a driving force in keeping baseball in the greater Green Bay area, working with the Blue Ribbons, Sultans and De Pere Dodgers.

“The contributions he made to the baseball world and the Green Bay community were immense, and the impact he had on the players he worked with will help carry on his legacy. Wisconsin State League Executive Secretary Steve Elliott said, “I can tell you that Denny’s passion for WSL was consuming, and when it came to the Hall of Fame, he was continually looking for betterments and enhancements. His final contribution will be realized this October at the Wisconsin State League Hall of Fame Banquet.”

“Many of our players and people associated with our ball clubs have made it to the Major Leagues and I think we should recognize them,” said Dennis Ruh, Chairman of the State League’s Hall of Fame Committee. The committee agreed and decided to set up a special section of its Hall of Fame for those who have made Major League rosters.

A memorial service for Denny is being planned for Saturday, April 23 in De Pere, WI.
