News and Notes
With the victory, the Nationals have secured at least a share of the 2023 Wisconsin State League championship. They will need to win one of the two remaining games against the Lombard Orioles to claim the championship outright. West Allis is seeking to become the first team to outright win the WSL Championship outside of Lombard since the Chicago Prairie Gravel won it in 2003, and the first Wisconsin-based team to win it since the Sheboygan A’s in 2000. The last time the Orioles didn’t outright win the title was in 2006 when the finished in a three-way tie with the Eau Claire Cavaliers and Kenosha Kings.
Tonight’s Kings vs. Barons game will decide the final seeding for the Wisconsin State League’s step-ladder qualifiers for the Wisconsin Class A State Tournament. Lombard and Addison are not eligible for the tournament, West Allis has an automatic bid into the tournament, and Green Bay will be in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League qualifiers due to travel proximity.
Burlington is guaranteed the #3 seed and will play on the road Tuesday. If Kenosha wins Friday night, they will be the #1 seed due to winning percentage and Sheboygan will be the #2 seed. If Kenosha looses to Burlington Friday, Sheboygan will be the #1 seed and Kenosha the #2.
Burlington will play at the #2 seed on Tuesday night at 7:30 PM. The winner of Tuesday’s game will play at the #1 seed on Wedneday. Wednesday’s winner will advance to the four-team Wisconsin Class A State Tournament August 5-6 in Marinette, WI.
