Rainouts Alter Final Wisconsin State League Championship Scenarios

Monday night’s rainouts have reshaped the final week of the Wisconsin State League regular season, as not every club will complete a full 25-game schedule.

The completion of Sheboygan’s suspended game at Kenosha, as well as Lombard and Addison were both postponed Monday. Sheboygan and Kenosha will resume their suspended contest on Thursday, July 30, in Burlington.

Lombard and Addison, who have had two games postponed, will only be able to make up one of the two if the Orioles and Braves meet this weekend during the NABF World Series in the Chicago area. If they do not meet, Lombard will finish with only 23 games played.

Under Wisconsin State League rules, the regular-season champion is determined by winning percentage.

Sheboygan remains atop the standings at 15-8 (.652), followed by Lombard at 14-9 (.609) and Kenosha at 14-10 (.583).

Despite the scheduling changes, Sheboygan continues to control its own destiny. The A’s have two regular-season games remaining: the completion of the suspended game against Kenosha on Thursday and a matchup with West Allis on Saturday in Oshkosh during the Wisconsin State League Tournament that also serves as the club’s final regular-season contest.

A victory in either remaining game would secure the Wisconsin State League championship outright for Sheboygan, as the A’s would finish with a winning percentage of at least .640, higher than Lombard’s maximum possible .625.

If Lombard’s remaining game against Addison is played, the Orioles could finish either 15-9 (.625) with a win or 14-10 (.583) with a loss. If that game is not played, Lombard would finish the season at 14-9 (.609).

Kenosha’s only remaining regular-season game is Thursday’s completion against Sheboygan. A victory would improve the Kings to 15-10 (.600), while a loss would end their season at 14-11 (.560).

The only scenarios in which Sheboygan would not claim the outright championship are if the A’s lose both remaining games, or if weather limits them to playing only one more game, they lose that contest, and Lombard wins its remaining game against Addison.

The Wisconsin State League regular-season champion will be determined upon completion of the remaining scheduled games.
