WSL Saturday Recap: Kings Sweep Addison in WSL Opener

Kenosha Kings 4, 10, Addison Braves 3, 2

Mark Cibrario went 2-2, helping Kenosha Kings to a 4-3 victory over the Addison Braves in game one of a Saturday doubleheader. He singled in the second and sixth innings.

Dalvin Ramos racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Addison Braves. He singled in the first, second, and fifth innings.

Brandon Jeffery got the win in relief for Kenosha. Jeffery pitched two innings and allowed no runs.

Tim Roetter couldn’t get it done on the rubber for the Braves, taking a loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Addison jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Josh Dryden singled to ignite the Braves’ offense, before Ramos singled, scoring Josh Dryden and Marco D’Angelo.

Kenosha got one-run rallies in the second inning and the sixth. In the second, Kenosha scored on an RBI single by Michael Szeszol, scoring Cibrario.

In game two of the day, the Kings jumped out to an early lead on the Braves and captured a 10-2 victory to sweep the doubleheader.

Six runs in the first three innings allowed the Kings to put the game away early.

A groundout by Garrett Bogucki in the first inning and an RBI single by Paul Pulera during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Kings. Michael Szeszol went a perfect 4-4 at the plate for the Kings. He tripled in the second inning and singled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Jason Bunton’s six strikeouts were enough to push the Kings past the Braves. Bunton allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks over six innings.

Scott Krawiec went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for Addison. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Mike Marren took the loss for the Braves. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.

The Kings matched its four-run third inning with four more in the fifth. In the third, they scored on an RBI double by Jason Dennis, plating Bogucki.

Jordan Weigold doubled, scoring Pulera to start the inning. That was followed up by Travis Vanderwall’s double, plating Weigold.

Sheboygan A’s 2, Appleton Legends 1

The Sheboygan A’s pulled within nine wins of 1500 career franchise victories after a 2-1 victory on opening night over the visiting Appleton Legends. Although both teams play in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League, it was a non-league game.

With the game tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, The A’s got key production from the top of the lineup, coupled with an Appleton error to get the go-ahead run.

Taylor Schwarz, a UNC-Greensboro alum entering his ninth season with the A’s, started the game on the mound, pitching seven innings, allowing one run.

Lackawanna College pitcher Dan Behlke, making his A’s debut, pitched a scoreless final two innings to secure the opening night victory.

The game featured two teams with thin rosters, as both are missing several players who are still completing their collegiate seasons.

The 1-0 A’s next game is on Friday, May 27 when the A’s host the West Allis Nationals at 7:30 PM. It is Fish FRYday, with gift certificates to numerous area restaurants being awarded to fans throughout the game.

Marinette Red Birds 6, West Allis Nationals 4; West Allis 4, Menominee 2

The West Allis Nationals bounced back from a tough 6-4 opening game loss
to Marinette with a hard-fought 5-2 ten inning victory over Menominee
in the nightcap.

The Nationals took an early 2-0 lead in game one with Chad Tindall and Nick
Lingvay drawing bases loaded walks. Unfortunately, the bats couldn’t
build on the lead and Marinette hung close. The game turned in the
fifth, with Marinette scoring six runs on a variety of well placed, if not
well struck, balls. The Nats added single tallies in the sixth and
seventh, but to no avail.

Game two featured an exceptional performance from reliever Bob Herrick,
called into duty as a spot starter. Herrick went six plus innings
allowing only five hits and striking out six. Chad Tindall and Dan
Putnam each threw two innings of relief, with Putnam earning the victory.

Matt Richer led the offense with three hits, including two doubles. Adam Karas hit the Nats first homer of the year and later drew a key
walk and scored the team’s fourth run.
