Orioles, Nationals Sweep Saturday Doubleheaders

The Lombard Orioles remained atop the Wisconsin State League standings while the Nationals picked up some ground on second-place Saturday.

The first-place Lombard Orioles swept the last-place Kenosha Kings Saturday, scoring 26 runs while allowing only four to remain atop the Wisconsin State League standings as the O’s hit the halfway mark of the season. The Orioles used seven extra-base hits in game one to build up their lead. Kyle Fitzgerald had a double and a triple while Clif Vickers had two doubles to help lead the offense. Jack Scheri had four runs batted in. In game two, while the offense of the Orioles continued to plate runs, the pitching allowed only one hit to the Kings’ Drew Knecht. The Kings issued seven walks to go along with 10 hits as the Orioles run-ruled the Kings in five innings.

In a matchup of the second and thrid place teams in the Wisconsin State League, it was the third-place Nationals that got the better of the Barons Saturday, outscoring Burlington 28-8. A nine-run fourth inning delivered the final blow in game one as the Nationals sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning. Logan Rademan’s two-run home run. That was followed by the Barons walking four of the next five batters, then hitting the sixth batter before Tristan Ellis hit a grand slam. Similarly, the third inning of game two saw the Nationals hit a two-run home run and a three-run home run in the inning to score seven on their way to the victory. Brian Huntzinger was 3-5 in game two with four RBI including a home run.
